We Did It! Nymphia Wind’s Spectacular Debut in Switzerland
Nymphia Wind’s performance made a dazzling debut in Switzerland, creating an unforgettable and iconic night. On April 20, in collaboration with Zurich’s well-known LGBTQ+ organization Boyahkasha, we invited Nymphia to perform at a Zurich nightclub, marking the first time this internationally celebrated Taiwanese performance artist left her brilliant footprint in Switzerland.
This event was more than just a show—it was the realization of a series of “impossible missions.” From dream to action, the journey was filled with challenges, emotions, and, most importantly, success.
Taiwanese Association in Switzerland (TAS) and Swiss Taiwanese chamber of commerce- Junior Chapter (STCC-JC) actively fundraised during the preparation stage, working together to close the financial gap and ensure Nymphia’s successful arrival. Hitting the fundraising goal not only symbolized strong support for art and freedom, but also made the event possible.
Dallin, President of STCC-JC, shared: “When I lived in Taipei, I developed a deep appreciation for drag performance art and even had the opportunity to see Nymphia perform. After moving to Switzerland, I hoped that Taiwanese activities would extend beyond just the Taiwanese community and reach local Swiss audiences, helping raise Taiwan’s visibility. One day, I met a local Swiss drag queen, and at that time, Nymphia was competing in a U.S. reality show. We wondered—could we bring her to Switzerland? After several rounds of communication, Boyahkasha showed interest, but due to limited funding, the project was almost cancelled. Fortunately, the Taiwanese community in Switzerland rallied together. Through joint fundraising efforts with TAS, we were able to make this beautiful cultural exchange happen.”
He also added:
“There are currently not many young Taiwanese living in Switzerland. We hope that by organizing meaningful events like this, we can attract more talented Taiwanese youth to join us, unite the overseas Taiwanese community, and make Taiwan more visible on the world stage.”
Approximately 1,100 people attended the event, making it one of the largest performances in Switzerland since the pandemic. The atmosphere was electric, full of passion and excitement.
After the performance, Nymphia shared her thoughts:
“I’m truly so happy. It was the collective power of everyone that brought me here to Switzerland. One of the most unforgettable moments was getting hit in the stomach with a banana (laughs) and seeing the happiness on everyone’s faces—that was my biggest reward.”
During her performance, Nymphia also addressed the crowd:
“Democracy is under threat—even in Taiwan.”
She dedicated one of her songs to the Taiwanese audience in attendance, showcasing her deep connection and concern for her homeland.
Her opening number, “My Heart Belongs Only to You,” brought many Taiwanese attendees to tears, as the familiar melody stirred memories and deep emotional resonance, bridging the distance between performer and audience.
Nymphia’s show not only introduced Swiss audiences to her artistry but also offered a vivid glimpse into Taiwan’s rich and diverse culture. This event was not just a cultural exchange—it was a powerful call for democracy and freedom.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this event. It was your belief and efforts that made this night possible! 😘
TAS will continue organizing community events—please stay tuned and keep supporting us!
